Woman injured

A rural Hartford City woman was injured Friday morning when the sport utility vehicle she was driving rolled over in Knox Township.

Kayla Kline, 19, 1632 North 325 West, was transported by Jay Emergency Medical Service for a back injury.

Kline told Jay County police she was driving west on Ind. 26, east of Ind. 167, and the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee veered off the north side of the road and into a ditch.

The SUV went back onto the road but she overcorrected her steering, causing the Jeep to go off the road again. It then rolled over and came to rest on its wheels.

The 8:34 a.m. accident caused damage to the Jeep, which is registered to James D. Kline, 1532 North 325 West, Hartford City, that was estimated at $5,000 to $10,000.

Tree scrapes car

A vehicle driven by a Redkey man was damaged Saturday when it sideswiped a fallen tree.

Gary D. Herman, 27, 548 N. Spencer St., told Jay County police the accident occurred at 10:45 p.m. in Wayne Township.

Herman said he was driving east on county road 200 South, west of Nan-Del Lane, when he veered toward the edge of the road to make room for an oncoming vehicle. He did not see a tree that was partially on the road. The tree scraped the passenger side of the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, causing damage estimated at less than $1,000.

The Pontiac is registered to Jack R. Anders, Redkey.

Parked vehicle hit

A parked pick-up truck was hit by a vehicle driven by a Portland woman on Sunday.

Barbara P. Hambrock, 59, 605 N. Garfield St., told Portland police she was parked at Portland First Church of the Nazarene, 920 S. Shank St. She began to back up and did not see the 2003 Dodge Dakota. Her 1996 Oldsmobile Silhouette struck the passenger side of the truck.

The accident occurred at 9:37 p.m.

Combined damage to Hambrock's car and the truck, registered to David and Freda Osenbaugh, 128 E. Lafayette St., Portland, was estimated at less than $1,000.

Sideswipe accident

A vehicle driven by a rural Portland woman sideswiped a car driven by a Union City woman in Portland on Sunday.

A 2000 Dodge truck driven by Ann M. Coy, 45, 2674 East 500 South, Portland, and a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Angela K. Long, 46, 811 W. Elm St., collided at 5:50 a.m.

Coy told Portland police she was turning west onto Water Street from Meridian Street and turned too sharply.

Her truck struck the car, which was stopped at the intersection.

Combined damage to the vehicles was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

Deer hit

Jay County police investigated two vehicle-deer accidents over the weekend.

At 9:50 p.m. Saturday on county road 200 North, about 200 feet west of county road 550 West, Janet M. Dirksen, 5471 South 300 East, hit a deer on the road.

Dirksen, 23, said several deer ran onto the road and she could not avoid hitting one of them with her 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Damage was estimated at $1,000 to $32,500.

At 9:15 p.m. Sunday on county road 700 East, about 500 feet south of county road 550 South, Heather M. Shrout, 10107 West Ind. 18, hit a deer on the road.

Shrout, 16, was driving a 1995 Dodge Neon registered to Michael Shrout, same address.

Damage was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

Hit at Wal-Mart

A Portland couple told police a vehicle driven by an unknown person struck their truck while it was parked at a Portland business on Friday.

Sandra K. and Samuel J. Wentz, 616 E. North St., told Portland police that the passenger side of their 2004 Chevrolet was struck while it was parked at Wal-Mart Supercenter, 650 W. Votaw St. The truck was dented and white paint was left on the side of the truck.

The accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

Window broken

A window on a van belonging to a Portland car dealership was broken recently.

A 2003 Dodge Caravan parked at Pete's Standard and Used Car Sales, 406 N. Meridian St., was damaged between 5 p.m. Friday and 10:35 a.m. Sunday.

The rear window was broken.

Car scratched

A Portland man reported someone scratched his car.

Corey Jones, 114 Silvers Lane, reported at 5:05 p.m. Friday to the Portland Police Department that someone had scratched his Cadillac. The car was reportedly parked outside his residence when it was vandalized.

Dog stolen

A female Boxer dog was reported stolen by a rural Portland man Wednesday evening.

Ryan Wenk, 6987 South U.S. 27, told the Jay County Sheriff's Department he believes his dog was stolen on the evening of May 29.

Wenk told officers he noticed a suspicious green Dodge truck near his home, but has no leads as to who may have taken the dog.

In area courts

In Celina (Ohio) Municipal Court recently, Jorge Rios, Portland, was fined $175 and ordered to pay court costs for passing a stopped school bus and having and expired driver's license.[[In-content Ad]]
