CORRECTION
The name of the insurance company which recently honored a Portland insurance agency was incorrect in Saturday’s Business Roundup in The Commercial Review.
A local insurance agency has been named the Indiana Agency of the Year by Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company.
Portland Insurance Agency, 115 E. Main St., received the honor at the company’s annual Cooper Club Luncheon honoring Indiana’s top agents. The local agent is Steve Arnold.
The award was based on growth, profitability and retention of policyholders with Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. Over the last five years, Portland Insurance has averaged 22 percent growth and retained 93 percent of its Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company customers.
MAN INJURED
A Portland man was injured after a moped accident on Harrison Street on Friday at 7:27 p.m.
David E. Brinkerhoff, 62, 144 Adams St., was transported by Jay Emergency Medical Service for minor bleeding on his head.
He was wearing a helmet, according to the Portland police report.
Brinkerhoff told police he was driving north on Harrison Street, about 100 feet north of East Arch Street, when a vehicle pulled out in front of him from an alley. He said he swerved and overcorrected the moped causing him to fall over.
Damage to the 2003 Yamaha Zuma was estimated between $750 and $1,000.
BURGLARY REPORTED
Portland police are investigating a Sunday morning burglary at the American Legion in Portland.
An undetermined amount of cash was taken from eight gaming machines in the building, located at 211 W. Walnut St., sometime between 12:30 and 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
An investigator from the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post also was called to help in the investigation. Police believe that two suspects gained entry into the building through a second floor window and emptied the machines.
DEER ACCIDENT
A car driven by a Fort Recovery man struck a deer in Noble Township on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Edward J. Link, 42, 1587 Sharsburg Road, was driving west on Ind. 26 at the intersection of county road 600 East, when a deer came onto the road.
Damage to Link’s 2002 Buick LeSabre was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.[[In-content Ad]]
