Arrested
Dunkirk police arrested a Dunkirk man and a Redkey woman for separate felony offenses over the weekend.
On Saturday morning, police arrested Travis Myers, 26, 314 N. Shatto St., Dunkirk, for theft, a class D felony, resisting law enforcement and possession of marijuana, both class A misdemeanors, and intimidation and public intoxication, both class B misdemeanors.
Myers allegedly stole several items from the Pak-A-Sak in Dunkirk then attempted to flee on foot from police.
He was released from the Jay County Jail this morning on $4,500 bond.
On Sunday night, police arrested Denise Walker Ryan, 37, 202 S. Meridian St., Redkey, for driving with a blood alcohol level of .15 percent or more, a class D felony, and possession of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor.
Ryan was arrested after she was pulled over by Dunkirk police.
The DUI charge was enhanced to a felony because she has a previous DUI conviction within the past five years.
As of this morning, Ryan was being held at the Jay County Jail. Her bond was set at $3,000.
Nabbed
Three intruders, one armed with a handgun, broke into a Purdue University residence hall room and tried to rob two students, police said.
The two students living in the Earhart Hall room told investigators they woke up about 4 a.m. Sunday after the group came into the room and threatened to tie one of them up with duct tape and steal items, including a video game system, The Associated Press reported.
The intruders fled when the two residents began shouting for help, campus police Capt. John Cox said.
Officers arrested James Richardson III, 20; Jovonee J. Thomas, 19, and a 13-year-old boy, who are all from Gary, in a parking lot outside the residence hall. Officers reported finding a handgun and a partial roll of duct tape on the three.
Purdue officials said the three did not have any affiliation with the school and were visiting two students who live in Earhart over the weekend, which is how they were able to enter locked building.
All three were arrested on burglary and marijuana possession charges. Richardson and Thomas were being held today in the Tippecanoe County Jail, while the juvenile was released to his parents.
Deaths
Garver D. James, 96, South Main Street, Dunkirk.
