Joe Kunkle
Joe J. Kunkle, 82, 406 South 200 West, Portland, died Friday evening at Jay County Hospital following a sudden illness.
He was a farmer and insurance agent for many years and was a member and trustee of the Salamonia Christian Church and member of the IOOF and Portland Moose Lodge.
Born April 24, 1921, in Jay County, he was the son of Merle and Hazel (Greaf) Kunkle. He was married Nov. 25, 1943, to Bettie Jean Valentine, who survives.
Surviving besides his wife are one son, Ken Kunkle, Portland; two daughters, Pamela Whittington, Portland, and Mrs. Roger (Patricia) Clay, LaGrange; two brothers, Robert Kunkle, Portland, and Larry Kunkle, Fort Recovery; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland. Burial will be in the Salamonia Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to the Jay County Heart Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Russell Butler
Russell E. Butler, 56, 440 W. Arch St., Portland, died Sunday afternoon at his home following an extended illness.
Arrangements are pending at the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home.
Rose Renbarger
Rose Ella Renbarger, 78, a resident of AmeriCare Living Center in Portland since September, died Saturday evening at the center.
She had formerly lived in the VanBuren, Montpelier and Pennville communities.
She was a member of the Farrville Friends Church, Van Buren, and was active in the Sweetser Ladies Aid.
Born May 14, 1925, in Marion, she was the daughter of Edgar and Gretchen (Hartley) Nichols. She attended Sweetser High School and was married in 1941, in Sweetser, to Harry Lewis Renbarger, who survives and lives in Portland.
Surviving besides her husband are one son, Harry Lewis Renbarger Jr., Pennville; one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Rebecca Ann) Wyrick, Van Buren; two brothers, Forrest Nichols, Van Buren, and Tom Nichols, El Cajon, Calif.; one sister, Carolyn Lee, Van Buren; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Glancy Funeral Homes — Walker Chapel, Montpelier, with Pastor Earl Doll officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory at Marion.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Stuart Schaeffer
Stuart D. Schaeffer, 67, formerly of Cambridge City, died Friday at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Archdale, N.C.
A native of Pershing, he earned a degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and was recognized as one of the leading engineers in industrial machinery projects.
He worked for many years with Bertsch and Company in Cambridge City, had his own consulting firm, BIT Inc., in Houston, Texas, and retired from Union Tank Car in East Chicago, Ill.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Sharon; his mother, Charlotte Schaeffer, Archdale, N.C.; two sons, Dr. Stanley Schaeffer, Kernersville, N.C., and Steven Timothy Schaeffer, Chicago; and one grandson.
Services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Waskom Capital Hill Chapel in Cambridge City, with Dr. Jon Morgan officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Pershing.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday.
