Correction
Chris Harris was incorrectly identified in a photo caption on page one of Saturday’s edition of The Commercial Review. She was pictured passing out candy on behalf of the Jay County Historical Society.
Hit pole
A vehicle driven by a Redkey man hit a pole after swerving to avoid a deer in Greene Township Saturday morning.
Robert K. Adams, 53, 9438 West 500 South, Redkey, was driving west on county road 300 South just east of 700 West when a deer entered the road. Adams exited the north side of the road to avoid the animal and struck a utility pole.
An estimated $5,000 to $10,000 of damage was caused to Adams’ 1997 Chevrolet 1500 pickup and the utility pole, owned by American Electric Power.
The accident occurred at 6:55 a.m.
Hits deer
A rural Portland woman hit a deer on Sunday evening in Bearcreek Township.
Nancy E. Alig, 54, 290 West 300 North, was driving south on U.S. 27 just south of county road 600 North when she hit a deer in the roadway.
An estimated $2,500 to $5,000 of damage was caused to her 2002 Honda Accord in the 8:01 p.m. accident.
Valve stolen
A rural Bryant man told police that someone stole a propane regulator valve from his rental property.
Ben Hawbaker, 201 East Ind. 18, said the theft occurred at 1452 West 400 North, Bryant.
Also, some copper line was cut.
The incident occurred between some time on Sept. 30 and before 2:53 p.m. on Saturday, he told Jay County police.
Cash stolen
A rural Portland man told police that someone stole $500 in cash from his wallet.
Michael Myers, 5187 South Como Road, called Jay County police Friday and said the theft occurred at his home sometime Thursday morning.
Truck damaged
A Portland resident’s pick-up truck was heavily damaged by fire on Sunday.
A Dodge Ram owned by Dave Best, 911 W. Main St., caught fire while it was parked at 208 Oak St., Portland. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 8:20 p.m. The first firefighters arrived at 8:24 p.m. Eight firefighters responded with one truck.
The fire was out at 8:43 p.m. The fire began in the engine compartment, a firefighter said.
In area courts
In Celina Municipal Court recently, Robert B. Dugger, 34, Fort Recovery, pleaded no contest to failure to file village income tax. He was ordered to pay court costs.
Also, a charge of failure to file village income tax against Michael C. Bailey, 32, Fort Recovery, was dismissed.[[In-content Ad]]
