INJURIES REPORTED

Accidents on Friday in Pennville and Saturday in Pike Township resulted in injuries.

On Friday at 5 p.m. two vehicles collided on Ind. 1 at the intersection of Lagro Street in Pennville.

Walter J. Newsome, 50, 321 South St., was transported by Jay Emergency Medical Service for head pain.

According to the police report, Newsome said he was traveling west on Lagro Street and stopped at the intersection of Ind. 1. He said that he did not see a 1987 Mercury car driven by Rex A. Clifton Jr., 21, 1510 W. Washington St. Newsome entered the intersection and collided with Clifton’s car.

Clifton told Jay County police he was driving north on Ind. 1 when the collision occurred.

Damage to Clifton’s car and Newsome’s 1983 Chevrolet S-10 was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

Newsome was cited for driving without proof of financial responsibility and driving after being designated a habitual traffic offender.

On Saturday at 1:25 p.m. a rural Winchester woman was injured in an accident in Pike Township.

Tammie L. Michael, 26, 2785 West 500 North, was transported to the hospital by a family member for severe bleeding of her lower arm area, according to information from the Jay County Sheriff’s Department.

Michael told Jay County police she was driving east on county road 400 South, about 2,500 feet west of Boundary Pike, when a westbound vehicle came over a hill and crossed the center of the road.

To avoid a collision, Michael said she drove off of the right side of the road, then drove to the left side of the road and struck a small tree.

Damage to Michael’s car was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

THEFT

Approximately $1,700 in electronic equipment was reported stolen Friday from a car parked at a rural Redkey business.

Chris Townsend reported to police that his CD player, equalizer, three amplifiers, an electronic kicker, eight speakers and eight CDs were stolen from his 1984 Pontiac Trans Am.

Townsend’s car was parked in the parking lot of Clay Trucking, 4599 South Ind. 1 between 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 2 and the afternoon on Oct. 3.

The dashboard area in his car was estimated at $750.

COUNTY ACCIDENT

Two vehicles collided Sunday at 2:35 p.m. in Bearcreek Township at Bearcreek Farms.

Thomas J. Lothridge, 19, 110 Mill St., Geneva, told Jay County police he was backing out of a driveway at 8319 North 400 East.

He said that he failed to see an approaching 1998 Phymouth Grand Voyager driven by Leonard A. Crouch, 34, 154 Moore Ave., Dunkirk.

Crouch told police he could not avoid colliding with the 1993 Dodge Dakota driven by Lothridge.

Damage to Crouch’s van and Lothridge’s truck was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

CITY ACCIDENTS

Vehicles driven by Portland residents collided on Sunday at 4 p.m. on Ben Hawkins Avenue.

Roger A. Luedeke, 40, 446 E. Seventh St., told Portland police he was approaching Ben Hawkins Avenue north of McNeal Street. Luedeke said that he stopped, then proceeded into the intersection, where his vehicle collided with a 2003 Kia sport utility vehicle driven by Ralph E. Armstrong, 56, 27 Sesame Street.

Armstrong was driving south on Ben Hawkins Avenue when before the collision with Luedeke’s 1986 GMC van.

Damage to Luedeke’s van and Armstrong’s SUV was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.

Luedeke was cited by police for unsafe turn and driving without proof of financial responsibility.

A truck driven by a Portland man collided with his West Race Street home on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Virgil L. Rigby, 78, 946 W. Race St., told Portland police he started his 1994 Ford truck and that it then struck a wall on the east wall of his residence.

Damage to Rigby’s truck was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

BURGLARY

Two medications were reported stolen from the home of a Portland man on Friday.

James L. Cordell, 625 N. Alexander St., told Portland police someone broke into his home and stole prescription medications sometime between 2 and 5 p.m.

Cordell was missing 90 tablets of Coresprodil and 60 tablets of Oxycodone.

CEMETERY VANDALISM

Vandalism to a tombstone in Wells Cemetery in rural Bryant was reported to Jay County police on Sunday.

Approximately $150 in damage to a tombstone was reported in the cemetery located at the intersection of 250 West and 500 North.

WINDOW DAMAGED

A rural Pennville man reported damage to a window in his truck on Friday.

Mark Butcher, 7212 West 450 North, told Jay County police that the driver’s side window was damaged sometime between 3 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday.

No damage estimate is available.

MAILBOX DAMAGED

A rural Portland man told Jay County police Sunday that his mailbox had been damaged.

Tim Bash, 5605 East 100 South, reported the incident to police on 9:20 a.m.[[In-content Ad]]
