Hits dog
A rural Portland woman told police she struck a dog while driving in Wayne Township.
Nancy J. Snyder, 44, 3650 East 300 South, told Jay County police she was driving east on county road 200 South on Wednesday, and a dog ran onto the road. She hit it with her 2008 Chrysler 300.
The 11 p.m. accident occurred east of county road 100 East and caused damage estimated at less than $1,000.

Hits post
A vehicle driven by a rural Portland woman struck a post in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter on Sunday.
Anne M. Gaskill, 44, 2839 East 500 North, told Portland police she was driving in the parking lot of the 650 W. Votaw St. business.
When she turned, the sun was in her eyes and she struck a small, concrete post.
The 8:34 a.m. accident caused combined damage to the post, owned by Walmart, and Gaskill’s 1999 Chevrolet Blazer, that was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

Passing accident
Vehicles driven by an Ohio man and a Marion man collided on a narrow stretch of road in Bearcreek Township on Saturday.
According to Jay County police, Garth T. Green, 53, 5609 U.S. 33, Mendon, was driving east on county road 650 North, pulling a trailer with a race car on it.

Paul M. Harper, 78, 1221 E. 38th St., Marion, was driving east behind Green. When Harper attempted to pass Green, the vehicles collided.
The accident occurred at 8:30 p.m., east of county road 200 East. Combined damage to Green’s 1990 Chevrolet and Harper’s 2001 Chrysler Sebring was estimated at $2,500 to $5,000.

Deer accidents
Jay County police investigated two vehicle-deer accidents during the weekend.
The first accident occurred Saturday at 11 p.m.
Philip E. Daniels, 58, 710 N. Elm St., Dunkirk, told Jay County police he was driving north on Ind. 167, just north of county road 200 South. A deer ran onto the road and he could not avoid hitting it with his 2005 Dodge Ram, causing damage estimated at $2,500 to $5,000.
The second accident occurred Sunday at 8 p.m.
Randall R. Buckland, 53, 8628 West 650 North, said he was driving his 1993 Chevrolet 1500 north on Ind. 1, south of county road 500 North. A deer ran onto the road and he hit it.
Damage to his truck was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

Deck painted
A rural Portland woman told police that someone spray-painted words on her deck.
Cindy McGraw, 3589 West 400 North, said vulgar words were painted on her front deck. She reported the vandalism to Jay County police Saturday at 9:38 a.m.[[In-content Ad]]
