Moore and Farris lead South Adams

BERNE - Hannah Moore and Mark Farris each won a pair of events to lead their Starfire track teams to victories Friday as they hosted the South Adams Invitational.

The SAHS girls dominated the six-team field with 156 points. Adams Central was second with 115.

In the boys competition, South Adams eked out the win 120-115 over Bellmont. Heritage was a close third at 104.

Hannah Moore dominated the distance races for the Starfire girls, taking the 1,600-meter run more than 10 seconds ahead of teammate Maddie Moore in 5-minutes, 30.08 seconds. She was also first in the 3,200 run in 12:04.85 ahead of teammate Sawyer Shane.

Farris did his damage in the sprints, taking the 100 dash in 11.19 and the 200 dash in 22.64.

Other winners for the SAHS girls were Bailee Green (100 dash), Kinsey Lengerich (200 dash) and Allison Beitler (800 run). Roman Smith took the 300 hurdles for the boys team.

The Starfires also won the girls 4x100 and 4x800 relays and the boys 4x400 relay.

JC girls place 2nd

HARTFORD CITY - Jordan McMillan picked up two wins to lead the Jay County girls to a second-place finish at Friday's eight-team Blackford Invitational.

New Haven won with 145 points, and JCHS was second with 109. Park Tudor was a distant third with 73.

McMillan controlled the sprints, winning the 100 dash in 12.55 seconds. She also took the top spot in the 200 dash at 26.3.

Katie Simmons, a freshman, earned the other win for the Patriots with a time of 12:33.19. JCHS senior Kylie Wellman was second.

Jay County had third-place efforts from Maria Murphy (shot put, discus), Brianne Wellman (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Lindsey Current (high jump) and Simmons (1,600 run).

Roessner wins title

COLDWATER, Ohio - Tina Roessner earned the only victory for Fort Recovery at the Mercer County Knights of Columbus Invitational.

The Tribe girls scored 46 points to place fifth while the boys were last in the six-team field with six points.

Roessner led the Indians by taking the 3200 run by more than seven seconds in 12:17.44. She was also third in the 1,600 run at 5:44.07.

Holly Brunswick finished second in the long jump at 15 feet, 9 ¾ inches.

Shane Stein had the best finish for the boys team, taking third in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches.

Stars win EJ meet

The South Adams Middle School girls team won the East Jay Relays Saturday with 83 points. East Jay was third in the five-team group with 47, and West Jay scored 24 points for fourth.

In the boys competition, West Jay was second with 73 behind Bluffton (82). South Adams placed third with 53 and East Jay was last with 38.

Leah Mitchel won the shot put for the SAMS girls at 26 feet, 7 inches as her team took the top three spots in the event. Bryanna Graat won the 100 dash in 13.2, and Kristen Muselman was first in the 1,500 run in 6:07.5.

Megan Price won the high jump for West Jay at 4 feet, 7 inches. East Jay got runner-up efforts from Abigail Johnson (1,600 run) and Malarie Houck (long jump).

Tyler Back won both the shot put and discus for the West Jay boys with tosses of 41 feet, 10 inches and 118 feet, 7 inches respectively. Back, Blake Crouch, Lucas Wiemer and Dalton Eyanson won the 4x100 relay in 50.58, and Crouch, Wiemer, Eyanson and Shelby Wendel took the 4x200 relay in 1:54.28.

Evan Liechty won the 1,600 run for South Adams in 5:09.4. East Jay got second-place efforts from Corey Bellis (110 hurdles) and Dylan Cope (long jump).

Pohl wins two

Josh Pohl took two events for the Fort Recovery Middle School boys track team at the Mercer County Knights of Columbus Invitational.

Pohl handled the distance events for the Tribe boys, who were last out of six teams, with wins in the 800 run in 2:23.62 and the 1,600 run at 5:12.71. Mitch Vagedes added a victory in the pole vault at 9 feet, 9 inches.

Abby May earned the lone title for the FRMS girls, who placed fourth. She finished the 200 hurdles with a top time of 31.95, and was also second in the 100 dash at 13.97.

Kelsey Fiely cleared the high jump bar at 4 feet, 6 inches for third place.[[In-content Ad]]
