Moore, Isch spark SAHS

MONROEVILLE — Hannah Moore and Eric Isch dominated the distance events Tuesday for the Starfires.
They each won a pair of races, with Moore leading the South Adams High School girls track team to a victory over host Heritage (62) and Bluffton (7) with 87 points. The boys team scored 72 points to defeat Heritage (58) and Bluffton (26).
Moore’s victory in the 1,600-meter run came in 5 minutes, 48 seconds, and she took the 3,200 run in 12:31. Isch won the same two events for the boys team in 4:47 and 10:18 respectively.
Kristen Muselman completed the girls’ distance sweep by winning the 800 run in 2:40. Adrianna Teeter took the long jump at 13 feet, 2 ½ inches, and Hannah Mitchel won the shot put with at 31 feet, 2 inches.
Joel Schmidt took the 110 hurdles for the boys team in 16.01 seconds. Drew Taylor was first in the shot put at 40 feet, 9½ inches, and Evan Johnston won the discus at 118 feet, 6 inches.

Graber, Potts win
HUNTINGTON — Lindsey Graber and Kassy Potts picked up another win Tuesday, but the South Adams girls tennis team dropped its 11th straight match 4-1 to the Huntington North Vikings.
Potts and Graber continued to lead the Starfires, who defeated Winchester in their season opener, with their effort at No. 1 doubles. They defeated Jericho Parrett and Macy Phillips 6-2, 6-4.
At No. 3 singles Abbie Campbell fell 6-2, 6-4 to Felecia Alderman, and in the No. 2 doubles match Mallory Eicher and Alex Fox lost 6-4, 6-0 to Brittany Stephan and Anne Haker.
Aine O’Donnell dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Taryn Wuensch at No. 1 singles, and Holly Taylor fell 6-2, 6-0 to Megan Leedy at No. 2 singles.

SA softball falls
BERNE — Host South Adams slipped to 0-4 in the Allen County Athletic Conference with a 10-0 loss Tuesday to the Garrett Railroaders.
The Starfires lost starting pitcher Alyssa Bluhm to injury after one inning, and Garrett took advantage of six walks and four errors. The Railroaders pulled away with three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings.
Brianna Nevil and Jennifer Miller each had a pair of hits for SAHS (3-8). Lily Taing added one hit.
Taing took the loss, giving up 10 runs — eight earned — on 10 hits in six innings.

Jay tennis loses
MUNCIE — The Patriots dropped every match in straight sets Tuesday in a 5-0 loss to the Muncie Central Bearcats.The closest match came at No. 1 doubles, where Jay County’s Ashley Caupp and Danielle Chenoweth fell 6-4, 6-2 to Natalie Cunningham and Taylor Rabel. In the No. 2 doubles match Kyla McKibben and Alicia Degler fell 6-1, 6-0 to Audrey Kirby and Kassie Lutton.
Emily Huntsman dropped the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-1 to Ada Kirby, and at No. 2 singles Jessica Ooten fell 6-0, 6-1 to Meghan Jackson. Cindy Hein lost 6-0, 6-0 to Zoe Belello at No. 3 singles.
JCHS also dropped the junior varsity match, 9-1, with the lone victory from Brie McGhee and Mackenzie Overholser at No. 6 doubles.

Bailey leads Merchants
Shia Bailey totaled three hits, a run and four RBIs Monday to lead First Merchants Bank to a 14-13 victory over Persimmon Ridge in Portland Junior League Rookie softball.
Bailey had a single in all three innings and scored the game-winning run in the third. Jayden Clayton had three hits, three runs and two RBIs, and Ashley Byer added three hits, three RBIs and a run.
Mariah Gross scored twice and drove in four runs for Persimmon Ridge.[[In-content Ad]]
