Moore takes 2 for Starfires (04/23/08)

PONETO - Trent Moore was the lone double winner for the South Adams High School teams, which each finished second in three-team action Tuesday.

Moore led the boys to 60 points as the team finished behind the Leo Lions (68) and ahead of the host Southern Wells Raiders (25). Leo also won the girls competition with 87 points, followed by the Starfires (49) and Southern Wells (19).

Moore owned the sprints for South Adams, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.2 seconds and the 200 dash in 24 flat. Roman Smith was first in the 300 hurdles in 43.5, and Nathan Rupp posted a winning time of 10-minutes, 38 seconds in the 3,200 run.

The Starfire girls team managed just two wins. Grace Dobler won the 100 dash in 13.7, and Kylie Cisney took the 300 hurdles in 51 flat.

Delta tops Chiefs

MUNCIE - Jordan McBride did everything he could Tuesday night, but it was not quite enough as the East Jay Middle School boys team lost 51-49 to the host Delta Eagles.

The Chief girls also fell to Delta, 63-27.

McBride won four individual events, and combined with Brock McFarland for a sweep of the field events.

Three of the field-event wins came from McBride as he took the discus at 106 feet, the shot put at 39 feet, 3 inches and the long jump at 16 feet, 8¼ inches. McBride finished off the sweep with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches to take the high jump.

McBride was also first in the 200-meter dash by more than two seconds at 26.75 seconds. McFarland added the only other win for the boys with a time of 13.25 in the 100 dash.

Maria Murphy was victorious in the throwing events to lead the girls team. She posted a distance of 33 feet, ½ inch in the shot put and won the discus at 78 feet, 4 inches.

Amber Huelskamp (long jump), Morgan Link (hurdles) and Katie Simmons (1,600 run) also added wins for the girls team.

The EJMS girls B team tied Delta with 41 points, and the boys team fell 59-22.

West Jay falls to Selma

DUNKIRK - Four different West Jay Middle School girls picked up individual wins Tuesday, but the team fell 52-48 to visiting Selma. The boys team lost 66-25.

Megan Sawyer paced the Eagles, taking first place in the 100-meter dash in 14.39 seconds. She also was part of both winning relays, teaming with Megan Price, Paige Alsip and Audrey Avey in the 4x100 and Price, Liz Lennartz and Brittany Clevenger in the 4x400.

Lennartz won the high jump, Megan Roush was first in the high jump and Melinda Penrod took the 800 run.

Seth Trumbo earned the lone individual win for the West Jay boys in the 200 dash. Dylan Harris, Dalton Eyanson, Blake Crouch and Kyle Selvey teamed for first place in the 4x100 relay.

Kahlig leads FR

FORT RECOVERY - Kylie Kahlig racked up three wins Monday in leading the Fort Recovery Middle School girls team to a 95-19 victory over Union City Westside.

Aaron Vagedes won three events for the Indian boys, who lost 86-33.

Kahlig paced the FRMS girls, who won 10 out of 15 events, and had a dominating effort in the shot put. She led a sweep of the top four by the Indians, winning by nearly six feet over teammate Rashell Muhlenkamp at 31 feet, 9½ inches.

She was also first in the 400-meter dash by more than four seconds in 1-minute, 7.8 seconds, and won the 200 dash in 29.3.

Vagedes picked up three of the boys' team's four wins matching Kahlig on the track. He was first in both the 400 dash in 58.6 and the 200 dash in 29.3.

He added a victory by nearly a foot in the long jump at 16 feet, 4 inches.

Becca Tobe (high jump), Amy Link (long jump), Christen Wendel (1,600 run), Olivia Schwieterman (200 hurdles), Mariah Koester (100 hurdles), Abby May (100 dash) and Julie Kahlig (800 run) all added wins for the FRMS girls. Ryan Gaerke took the pole vault for the boys team.[[In-content Ad]]
