Morgan and Moser pick up conference awards (02/28/08)

BERNE - Ashton Morgan and Andrea Moser of the South Adams High School girls basketball team were honored this week with Allen County Athletic Conference awards.
Morgan was the lone Starfire named to the first team, and Moser was a second-team selection.
A junior, Morgan averaged team bests of 11.6 points, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game for the Starfires. She was second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.
Moser, a senior, was SAHS's top rebounder at 7.3 per game, which was good for fifth overall in the conference.
McCowan falls in roll-off
ANDERSON - Thomas McCowan had an outstanding day at the Indiana High School Bowling State Finals Saturday at Cooper's Sport Bowl, but fell just short of bowling for the state title.
McCowan, a Jay County High School senior, turned in the second-best series in the 18-bowler field to qualify for the step-ladder round. He put together a 694 total for three games, trailing only Jimtown's Kevin Kelley, who rolled a perfect game en route to an 828 series.
Justin McCarty (691) of Rochester and Elliott Myers (687) of Anderson Highland were the other qualifiers.
McCowan faced Myers, who defeated McCarty 279-236 in the first head-to-head match, in the second step-ladder round, bettering his series average with a 257. But Myers was even more on fire, rolling a 267.
Kelley defeated Myers 259-236 to take the state title.
South Side upset
One potential state-ranked opponent for Jay County is gone. The best team in the state awaits South Adams.
Class 4A No. 10 Fort Wayne South Side suffered a 61-56 loss to Fort Wayne North Side Wednesday at the tournament at Marion. Meanwhile, Class 2A No. 1 Bluffton clobbered winless Adams Central 49-26 at Woodlan to earn a semifinal date with the Starfires.
The No. 8 host Giants (19-4) won the second opening-round game at Marion Wednesday, and will play North Side (10-11) in the semifinal round Friday at 6 p.m. Jay County (16-4) and Huntington North (5-15) will meet in the second semifinal game, and the winners will play for the sectional title Saturday.
South Adams (10-11) will meet Bluffton (22-0) in the semifinal round Friday at Woodlan at 7:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
