Morgan leads Stars (08/24/07)

South Adams roundup

BERNE - The Railroaders thought they were back in the game. Ashton Morgan had other ideas.

Morgan scored twice in a span of less than eight minutes to complete her hat trick Thursday and start a run of four consecutive South Adams goals as the Starfire girls soccer team clobbered Garrett 7-2.

South Adams (3-1) had a 2-0 lead after the first half - one of those goals came from Morgan - but Garrett pulled within one when Lindsey Yarde scored at the 31:10 mark of the second half. Morgan was more than willing to respond.

The junior pushed the Starfire lead to 3-1 just 2:10 after Yarde's goal, the tallied her third goal at the 21:32 mark. Jodie Muhlenkamp and Kinsey Lengerich each added goals before Yarde got on the board again.

Chelsey Nevil scored South Adams' other first-half goal, and Lindsey Graber had the final score in the second half. Lengerich and Moore each had two assists, and Katrina Hawkins finished with nine saves.

No luck at New Haven

NEW HAVEN - The Starfire boys tennis team dropped to 0-3 Thursday with a 5-0 loss to the New Haven Bulldogs.

Brett Wagner was the only South Adams player to win a game. He took the opening game of his match at No. 1 singles against Justin Erdly, but fell 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Chase Ingle (No. 2 singles), Kegan Sprunger (No. 3 singles), Kyle Schmidt and Landyn Waugh (No. 1 doubles) and Reid Zurcher and Jacob Smith (No. 2 doubles) all went down 6-0, 6-0.

Daniel Dynes dropped the lone junior varsity match to Bryan Slecker, 8-2.

Squaws top spikers

DECATUR - For the second straight match the Starfire volleyball team failed to reach double-digit points in any game, this time losing 25-7, 25-8, 25-7 to the Class 3A No. 2 Bellmont Squaws.

Jacie Yoder led South Adams, which fell 25-6, 26-6, 26-9 Tuesday to Eastbrook, with five assists and the team's lone ace. Kyla Potts came up with four digs, and Hali Feaster and Karen Bollenbacher each had two kills.

The Starfires dropped the junior varsity match to Bellmont, 25-10, 25-14.[[In-content Ad]]
