Morgan powers Starfire softball (05/14/08)

BERNE - Ashton Morgan was on fire at the plate from the start, and closed the game just as hot on the rubber.
The junior had four hits and tossed four scoreless innings to lead the South Adams High School softball team to an 8-1 victory over the visiting Cowan Blackhawks.
Morgan went 4-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs, two runs and a stolen base as the Starfires improved to 14-8 on the season. She took over pitching duties from Amber Melick in the fourth inning and gave up just one hit while striking out five batters.
Anne Lehman doubled and drove in two runs. Melick had two hits, Jordan Lehman finished with a pair of RBIs and Chelsea Roop scored twice.
Melick earned the win as she gave up one run on one hit and one walk in three innings. She struck out four batters.
Fort falls in Delphos
DELPHOS, Ohio - As long as the offense returns today, the Fort Recovery baseball team will be all right.
In a warm-up for tonight's sectional championship game against New Bremen, the Indians managed just two hits in a 5-0 loss to the Jefferson Wildcats.
Curt Heitkamp took the loss as he gave up five runs - three earned - on eight hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings. Frank Thien tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for Fort Recovery (8-10).
Travis Hart had a double, and Cody Fiely had the only other Tribe hit.
SA golfers lose
HARTFORD CITY - The South Adams boys golf team was last in a three-team field Tuesday with a score of 197 at Blackford Country Club.
Southern Wells and the host Bruins finished in a tie at 192.
Landyn Waugh had the top score for the Starfires, shooting a 47. Ryan Moser and Mark Farris followed with matching 48s.
Thurman Pursley rounded out the team score with a 54, and Zack Sharp finished at 55.
