Morgan tosses 1-hitter (05/10/07)

Local roundup

BERNE - Amber Edmundson shut down the Starfires. Ashton Morgan did the same to the Patriots, and she was just a little bit better.

Morgan's one-hitter bested Edmundson's three-hitter Wednesday as the Class 2A No. 7 South Adams softball team defeated Jay County 1-0.

Morgan earned her fifth win of the year, giving up only a single to JCHS senior Morgan Locke. She struck out two batters and walked three.

The Starfires (13-5) got their only run in the fifth inning when Lindsay Batt, who finished with two of the three South Adams hits, ripped a triple. Anne Lehman drove in the game-winning run with a double.

Edmundson took the defeat, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk.

It was the third straight one-run loss for Jay County (11-7). It fell 5-4 to Anderson in eight innings Monday and 4-3 Tuesday against Blackford.

Jay holds off Blackford

HARTFORD CITY - The Jay County baseball team bounced back from its third loss of the season with a 7-5 victory over the host Blackford Bruins.

The Patriots built a 7-2 lead with a five-run fourth inning, then held on as Blackford scored three times in the bottom of the seventh.

Josh Ludy again powered the JCHS offense, smacking his eighth home run of the year. The junior drove in three runs and scored twice.

Luke Goetz finished with two hits, including a double, and Thomas McCowan and Rhett Retter each doubled and scored a run.

Michael Jobe improved to 6-1 on the season for Jay County (13-3) and finished with seven strikeouts. He gave up five runs on 10 hits and four walks.[[In-content Ad]]
