Company honored
Meshberger Brothers Stone Corporation in Decatur was honored by the Indiana Department of Transportation this week as an Outstanding Hot Mix Asphalt Producer of northeast Indiana for the 2006 construction season.
Meshberger, which has stone producing companies in Jay and Randolph counties, was one of six companies in the state honored with the award.
The Indiana Certified Hot Mix Asphalt program allows producers to take responsibility for all aspects of asphalt production. The program saves the state time and money by reducing the amount of material testing done at project sites while maintaining superior quality control.
Overall outstanding producer for the state in 2006 was Rieth-Riley Construction Company in Indianapolis.
Ownership plan
The board of directors of Miller's Health Systems, Inc. recently announced the formation of an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) for their employment force of nearly 3,000. Miller's Health Systems, Inc. operates in the state of Indiana and manages 30 Miller's Merry Manor nursing care centers, including one in Dunkirk, and nine Miller's Senior Living assisted living communities. It also leases and operates a hospital transitional unit.
An ESOP is a trust which functions as a qualified retirement benefit plan, with the investment being in the stock of the sponsoring company. While ESOPs can have varying percentages of ownership, plans call for Miller's Health Systems to be 100 percent employee-owned.
