MUNCIE - The start turned out to be a struggle for the Jay County boys soccer team as it fell 2-0 Tuesday to the Muncie Central Bearcats.
The Patriots lost to Central in the opener by the same score last season.
Jon Galvin and Spencer Smith each scored goals to lead the Bearcat victory. Neil Chalupa and Akahiro Ando added assists as goalie Josh Taulbee recorded the shutout.
Jay County statistics were not available at press time.
Fuller places 11th
Several West Jay Middle School runners competed Saturday in the Healthy Traditions 5K in Columbia City.
Chance Fuller posted the best result of any Eagle, finishing 11th in the 17-and-younger boys division at 21-minutes, 29 seconds.
He was followed by Zach Johnson (19th - 27:40) and Lee Mock (21st - 29:10).
Elizabeth Lennartz had the top effort for West Jay in the 17-and-younger girls division at 15th in 24:35.
Megan Price was 21st with a time of 27:46.[[In-content Ad]]
