Muncie Central defeats the Patriots (05/10/06)

MUNCIE — With a week to go before the tournament, Jay County’s track teams fell to a sectional rival.
The Patriot girls came up with five victories, but lost 73-50 to the Muncie Central Bearcats Tuesday. The boys team won three events in an 85-46 defeat.
Jay County’s top effort came in the boys 110-meter hurdles where Mason Shreve and Denny Gardner teamed for a one-two finish. Shreve won the event in 16.67 seconds, and Gardner was just behind him in 16.98.
Joseph Vormohr had the only other victory for the Patriot boys. He took the shot put at 48 feet, six inches.
Kylie Wellman dominated the 1,600 run for the Jay County girls, finishing nearly 30 seconds ahead of the field. Her winning time was 5-minutes, 56 seconds.
Jessica Mosier and Alyssa Johnson each added victories as the Patriots swept the long-distance events. Mosier took the 800 run in 2:37.42, and Johnson won the 3,200 in 12:50.
Sarah Mescher added a victory in the 100 dash by just four hundredths of a second in 12.86.
Both JCHS teams won the 4x800 relay — the boys in 9:16, and the girls with a time of 10:50.28.[[In-content Ad]]
