Murphy 26th in Indiana
JCHS girls track
BLOOMINGTON - Maria Murphy's day didn't go as well as she had hoped. Still, it was an experience to build on for the sophomore.
Murphy competed in the discus Friday at the IHSAA Track and Field State Finals, finishing in 26th place.
"It was a very good experience," said Murphy. "I didn't do as well as what I wanted to. But I guess me being a sophomore and me going there was a great thing. I'm just hoping to get there for my next two years."
The best throw of the day for Murphy, who entered as the No. 23 seed, was her second at 101 feet, 10 inches. That toss put her in front of Scecina's Kathryn Hansesen (101 feet, 6 inches) in the field of 27.
Tori Bliss of Portage won the state title at 144, 2 inches, more than two feet ahead of runner-up Izzy May of Noblesville.[[In-content Ad]]
