Museum hosting open house (04/19/07)
Taking Note
The Jay County Historical Museum will have an open house on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. A collection of photographs from New Corydon resident Kirk Reed will be displayed. There will also be a display about the Dunkirk glass factories.
The museum is located at 903 E. Main St. in Portland. Admission is free.

Jane Ann Runyon, Jay Circuit Court Clerk, will speak on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the museum. Her topic will be "What's Where in County Government" and she will explaining about what entities to go to for assistance in the county.
ME's Zoo
ME's Zoo, Parker City, opened its season on April 14 with the theme "Continuing the Dream," in memory of Max Oren, the zoo's founder.
Hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for children and $6 for adults.
The zoo is located at 12441 West 300 South.
Girl Scout swim
Girl Scouts in Jay County are invited to Bearcreek Farms Ol' Swimming Hole on April 29, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Permission slips may be picked up from leaders or Susan Bloom at Bloom's Discount Store in Portland.
A bus will pick up scouts at West Jay Middle School in Dunkirk at 4 p.m.; at Redkey Elementary at 4:20 p.m. and at Jay County High School at 4:40 p.m. The cost is 50 cents.
The bus will return to Jay County High School at 7:30 p.m.; Redkey Elementary at 7:45 p.m. and West Jay Middle School at 8 p.m.
Porter films
Two films made from novels of Indiana naturalist Gene Stratton-Porter will be shown at the Star Theater, 453 E. Line St. in Geneva.
Girl of the Limberlost, made in 1934, will be shown on Saturday, May 5, at 7 p.m. and Romance of the Limberlost, made in 1938, will be shown on Sunday, May 6, at 2 p.m.
Admission to each film is $6.50 in advance or $8 the day of the show. To purchase tickets, call Friends of the Limberlost at (260) 368-7428.[[In-content Ad]]
