MusicWorks registration deadline nears (05/31/06)

Arts Place in Portland is accepting registrations through Friday for summer MusicWorks individual instruction. Classes will begin June 12 and continue through July 28 and are available in brass, woodwinds, strings, piano, voice, guitar, banjo and percussion.

Presented with award
Wilmington College senior, Melissa J. Muhlenkamp, Bryant, was recently presented with the academic award in agriculture education.
Faculty in each academic major at Wilmington establish criteria for the award and then choose a senior who has excelled their studies.
Muhlenkamp is a graduate of Jay County High School.
Earn degrees
Two Portland students received bachelor of arts degrees from Wabash College on May 14, during the 168th commencement exercise.
They are Caleb Dann, a history major, son of Bill and Rebecca Dann, 1027 West 200 South, Portland, and Andrew Wells, a history major, son of J.C. and Nancy Wells, 264 West 200 South, Portland. They were among the 203 graduating seniors at Wabash.

Audrey Muhlenkamp, daughter of Bonnie and Richard Muhlenkamp, Bryant, has graduated with a masters degree in agriculture economics from Purdue University.
She is a 2000 graduate of Jay County High School and will be residing in Madison, Wisc., where she is taking a position with the USDA working in the Nass division dealing with crop statistics.

Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne has awarded 1,003 degrees and certificates to 938 students who completed their course of study during the 2006 spring semester.
Included among those graduates were Nathan R. Ehrhart, Portland, bachelor of science in geosciences, and Julie Anne Steigerwalt, Portland, associate of science in dental education.

Cyndi Portteus, daughter of James and Patricia Sudhoff, Bryant, recently earned a master of public affairs degree in nonprofit management from IUPUI.

Kyle William Cook, son of Bill and Kathy Cook, Portland, recently earned a bachelor of science degree in the fifth nationally ranked entrepreneurship program at Ball State University with additional studies in landscape architecture.
He will be joining Cook’s Nursery and Trim as a partner.

Julie Elaine Bubp, Portland, recently earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from DePauw University in Greencastle.
Named to list
Travis Richards, 2016 West 500 North, Portland, was recently named to the President’s list at Tri-State University, Angola.
Richards is majoring in mechanical engineering and maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.677.

Seth Enyart, Portland, was named to the spring chancellor’s list at Indiana University East by maintaining a grade point average of 4.0.
Grants awarded
Both recipients of this year’s $500 college scholarships from the Geneva Proud organization are aiming for careers in the medical field.
They are seniors at South Adams High School in Berne.
Ashley Bollenbacher, daughter of Terry and Kim Bollenbacher, Geneva, will enter Ball State University in Muncie to become a nurse, and Lacy Rhoades, the daughter of Rich and Lori Rhoades, rural Geneva, will attend the University of Indianapolis, to also major in nursing.
Bollenbacher currently ranks in the top 10 percent of her class scholastically. Rhoades has been a member of the school’s swimming, volleyball and softball squads.
Tour set
The Brown County Log Cabin tour is set for June 3 and 4 in southern Indiana. Five privately-owned log or country homes in the hills of Brown County will be featured during the 32nd annual Log Cabin Tour. The tour is sponsored by Psi Iota Xi Sorority and all proceeds support art, literature, music, and speech and hearing needs in the Brown County community.
Tour hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, rain or shine. Tickets are available by mail at P.O.. Box 39, Nashville, 47448.
Tickets are $15 or adults, $7 for children under age 12, and under age two are free.

Guest speaker
Kathy Rose, state regent of Daughters of American Colonists, was the guest speaker of a recent meeting of the Colonel Ninian Beall Chapter DAC.
She noted a state meeting will be held in Indianapolis in September at which time a memorial service will be observed honoring three deceased members, Harriett N. Bye, Marjorie Kathern Starr and Audrey Kennedy.
Named to dean’s list
Several Jay County residents have been named to the dean’s list and honor roll at the University of Indianapolis.
Julie Garringer, Amber Golden, both of Portland, and Joshua Greenlee, Dunkirk, have been named to the dean’s list.
Named to the honor roll were Keia Pensinger, Jessica Rowles, Nathan Tomey, all of Portland, and Paige Hummel, Dunkirk.[[In-content Ad]]
