MusicWorks registration open (12/20/05)

Registration for spring MusicWorks individual and group music instruction are now being accepted at Arts Place in Portland. Weekly classes will begin on Jan. 17 and continue through May.

Individual lessons are available in brass, woodwinds, strings, piano, voice, guitar and percussion.

Group lessons include Stateline Singers youth choir, Eastern Breeze Flute Ensemble, Distant Thunder Percussion Ensemble and strings. A new group, The Brown Paper Sax saxophone ensemble, will begin this spring for experienced saxophone players of all ages.

Lilly scholarships

Jay County High School students who will graduate in 2006, with at least a 3.5 grade point average, can apply for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program Fact Sheet and Scholarship Application. Students must also have been accepted to a full time baccalaureate course of study in the fall of 2006.

The application must be sent to The Portland Foundation, 112 E. Main St., Portland, IN 47371, by Jan. 5, 2006.

ACT test registration

College-bound students have until Jan. 6, 2006 to register for the ACT exam to be taken on Feb. 11. The cost of the test is $29 and $43 if the optional Writing Test is taken.
