MusicWorks students compete
Taking Note
Two MusicWorks students recently competed in the Indiana State School Music Association solo/ensemble contest.
Liza Haggenjos, clarinet, and Neal Fennig, percussion, received First Division Gold Ratings at the Indianapolis contest.
Fennig is a senior at Jay County High School and has been in the MusicWorks program at Arts Place for four years.
Haggenjos is a sophomore at JCHS and has been enrolled in MusicWorks since 2001.
Both are members of the Jay County Patriot Band.
Season begins
The Adams County Horseshoe League begins its season in April and is looking for team members.
Men and women of all ages are eligible and no experience is necessary. Cost is a one-time fee of $15.

Cameraman at museum
The Garst Museum, Greenville, Ohio, will host Mr. Lincoln’s Cameraman: An Afternoon with Mathew Brady, on April 10.
Mark Holbrook will speak as if it is 10 years after the Civil War and share stories of Abraham Lincoln, the war and his career. Brady was a world-renowned photographer in the 1850s and 1860s and gave many lectures on his experience as a photographer.
Holbrook is the marketing manager for the Ohio Historical Society and serves as a Civil War historian.
The event will be held at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Arts class
The National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture, Inc., will hold Great Lakes Native American cultural arts classes for children on Saturday and Sunday.
The classes for children age 6 and up will be held in the women’s building at the Jay County Fairgrounds, Portland. Parents and grandparents may also attend. The class fee is $12 and includes instruction and materials. For more information, contact Kay Neumayr at (765) 426-3022.
Dean’s list
Jessica Muhlenkamp, Portland, and Jacob Schmidt, Portland, recently were named to the dean’s list for the winter quarter at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Muhlenkamp is the daughter of Allen and Theresa Muhlenkamp. The senior is majoring in civil engineering. Schmidt is a junior and the son of Gary and Diane Schmidt. He is majoring in computer science.[[In-content Ad]]
