Myers served public well (2/19/04)
Opinion
Coroner isn’t the sort of elected post that usually attracts a lot of attention.
And it’s even more easily overlooked when the job is done well.
That’s been the case with Brad Myers, who announced last week that he’s leaving the area and won’t be a candidate for re-election.
During his years in office, Myers, an employee of Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home, handled the job with true professionalism.
Most importantly, he knew how to strike the important balance between being sensitive to survivors and being aware of the legitimate interests of the public.
He never dodged the press, never fudged the facts, and never tried to hide information from the public; but he wasn’t a grandstander either.
Instead, he did the job with dignity and respect for the public interest.
A handful of candidates have already surfaced to run for the post.
Our only hope is that they’re all prepared to meet the high standards Myers has established. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
