Netters finally top the Knights (09/01/05)
JCHS boys tennis
It took them two weeks to do it, but the Patriots finally ended their long losing streak against Norwell.
Jay County’s boys tennis team completed its 4-1 victory over the Norwell Knights Wednesday. It marked the Patriots’ first victory over Norwell in boys tennis since 1995.
The teams started the match Thursday, Aug. 18, but it was stopped after about a set because of rain.
Kurtis Hess needed little time to run his record to 7-2, winning two games and one point to finish off his victory over David Brege. He topped Brege, who he also defeated at the DeKalb Invitational, 6-1, 6-0.
Senior No. 1 doubles duo Tyler Rigby and Randy Evans improved to 7-2 as well. They topped Blake Feichter and Brian Nahrwold 6-1, 6-4.
The Patriots also got a pair of wins in matches they had trailed in when the rain hit two weeks ago.
Phil Powell rallied from a set down at No. 3 singles, dominating the final two sets for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win over Jason Isch. The No. 2 doubles pair of Heath Rigby and Thomas McCowan fought for a first-set tie-breaker win and defeated Jeremy Hiser and Justin Koch 7-6 (13-11), 6-3.
Josh Ludy took the lone defeat against Norwell at No. 2 singles, falling to Dirk Troxell 6-4, 6-2.
Jay County dropped both junior varsity matches to Norwell, with Jason Crouch and Adam Horn each falling to Levi Gerber. Crouch lost by an 8-6 score, and Horn fell 6-2.[[In-content Ad]]
