Nevil named all-conference

BERNE — Brianna Nevil finished off her high school career by being named one of the best players in the conference.
The South Adams High School graduate was the lone Starfire softball player to earn first-team All-Allen County Athletic Conference honors when the awards were announced Monday.
Senior Lily Taing and  sophomore Alyssa Bluhm were named to the second team.
Nevil, who will play at Hesston College in Kansas next season, led the Starfires in hits (44) and doubles (13) during her senior year. She had a .415 batting average and finished with 25 RBIs and 20 runs.
Bluhm was the top SAHS pitcher, totaling eight wins while striking out 125 batters in 139 innings.
Taing hit .314 with a team-best 26 RBIs and 16 runs.
She finished with a .392 batting average, 26 runs and 20 RBIs.

Manor scores three

Tyler Manor led the way for Pak-A-Sak in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball Tuesday as it defeated All Circuit Electric 11-8. In the other Rookie game, J&P Plating knocked off Barnett’s Auto Parts 14-12.
Manor had a triple in the second inning and scored three times for Pak-A-Sak. Justin Hoover, Cameron Daniels and Kenny Carducci each scored twice.
Mickey Waters hit an inside-the-park home run, scored twice and drove in three runs for All Circuit.
Jacob Hart and Doran Beiswanger each finished with three runs to pace J&P Plating. Zach McAbee and Jay Goodrich added two runs apiece.
Mason Ludy had an inside-the-park home run for Barnett’s.

JC swimmers win
UNION CITY — The Jay County Summer Swim team picked up its third straight victory Tuesday as it topped Union City.
The victory improved Jay County, which dropped its season opener to South Adams, to 3-1 on the year.[[In-content Ad]]
