New homes top permits

County residents obtained 28 building permits totaling more than $1 million in new construction in April.

Fish Rich launch
Bell Aquaculture, Redkey, announced that it is launching its Fish Rich fertilizer line at the 2012 National Hardware Show in Las Vegas.
The fertilizers, which are made from the byproduct of the company’s yellow perch processing, will be on display as part of the show in the Central Hall’s Lawn and Garden/Outdoor Living Pavillion. Fish Rich 2-2-2 Organic and Fish Rich+ 6-3-3 are made at the Redkey processing facility.
Bell Aquaculture is also partnering with the Jay County Community Garden to introduce Fish Rich products locally.
Old National earnings
Old National Bancorp reported Monday that earnings rose by more than $5 million in the first quarter compared to 2011.
Earnings increased to $21.7 million in the first three months this year compared to $16.4 million in the same period in 2011.
The Evansville-based bank group acquired assets last year from Integra Bank N.A. from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
Job fair set
U.S. Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.) and local officials will host a job fair May 30 in Lafayette featuring 70 employers offering approximately 2,500 jobs.
The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the West Pavillion at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds, Lafayette.
There is no cost.

Daycare opens
FORT RECOVERY — Bright Future Daycare and Preschool is open for business at 701 Industrial Drive.
The facility, which is operating from a 3,500-square foot building in the village’s industrial park, can handle up to 83 students (ages 6 weeks to kindergarten), say owners Sara Evers and Theresa Lennartz, who also operate a daycare in St. Henry.
The Fort Recovery center will offer a state-approved curriculum three days per week.
The facility was opened at the request of nearby JR Manufacturing, which recently closed its in-house daycare.
Profits rising
Comcast, the largest cable television/Internet provider in the United States, topped profit and sales estimates for the first quarter of 2012 with the help of a thriving broadband Internet market.
Net income rose 30 percent to $1.22 billion (45 cents per share), compared with $943 million in the first three months of 2011. Comcast, which serves incorporated areas of Jay and nearby counties, added 439,000 broadband subscribers in the quarter, offsetting the loss of 37,000 cable TV customers.
New CEO
Tim Kean, who has worked for Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana for seven years, began serving May 1 as the organization’s new president and CEO.
Kean was hired after a national search to find a replacement for Lois Rockhill, who retired earlier this year.
Kean, who formerly worked in the retail grocery industry, also organized a food pantry at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Anderson.[[In-content Ad]]
