New Portland chamber board members named (01/28/06)

New members of the Portland Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors recently were named.
Joining the board are Jim Kennedy, Carla Strong, Susan Kohler and June Domingo. Steve Zielinski was named to serve another term on the board.
Kennedy, Muncie, is the general manager of US operations at Alphabet Inc.-Portland Division. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and management at Marietta College of Marietta, Ohio.
He has worked for Alphabet for 24 years, and has been at the Portland plant since 2000. He has three children.
Strong, Bryant, is general manager at Bearcreek Farms, where she has worked for 24 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University. She is the mother of two.
Kohler, Portland, owns Patriot Sportswear, which opened in 2004. She also is the controller at Tyson Mexican Original of Portland. She and husband Wade have three sons.
Domingo owns Curves for Women of Portland and Berne. She and her husband Roger reside in Portland. She holds a bachelor’s degree in math education and a master’s degree in math.
Zielinski is the owner of the Glass Bonsai. He will be serving his second term. The three-year terms will end in 2008.
Name change
Bing Assembly System, LLC, Berne, has reorganized under the new name, Integrated Manufacturing & Assembly, LLC.
As of this reorganization, the company will no longer have any ties to The Bing Group.
After hours set
The next Portland Area Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event will be held Feb. 21 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Yesterday’s Treasures, 973 S. Meridian St., Portland.
The March 8 event will be held at Arts Place, and Albertson’s Floor Covering will host the April 12 after hours event.
Program launched
Red Gold, Inc. has launched a company-wide training program through Purdue University’s Technical Assistance Program. The program, which costs more than $478,000, will emphasize hands-on training and continuous improvement in the workplace.
In addition, fifteen Red Gold employees are enrolled in the organizational leadership and supervision program, administered through Purdue’s College of Technology. Employees are working toward an applied science or bachelor of science degree.
Both programs are offered at the Red Gold Orestes site in Madison County.
There is a Red Gold plant in Geneva.
New employee
Dean Strait, Montpelier, recently was hired to work for Moser Motors of Portland.
He brings with him 20 years of experience as an automotive technician.
Strait received his associate’s degree from Lima Northwestern Auto Business College and went on to become an ASE Certified Master Technician in 2001 and a Ford Master Technician in 2002.
Strait, who is also active in the Montpelier Motor Speedway, Montpelier Lions Club, Montpelier Masonic Lodge No. 600, Scottish Rite and Shriners, along with his wife, Linda, also owns and operates the Garden Gate Floral and Gift Shoppe in Montpelier.
ECIHRA to hold meeting
The East Central Indiana Human Resources Association will hold its next membership meeting Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Delaware Country Club, 510 South Country Club Road, Muncie.
Jay Harvey and Sandy Clidence of Strategic Health Plans Corporation, Carmel, will speak on the topic “How Worksite Wellness Can Impact Your Company’s Bottomline.”
Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $13 for members, $18 for guests and $6.50 for students. Lunch is included.

DRG COO steps down
Dynamic Resource Group announced Thursday that Jeff Thorpe, chief operating officer of the Strategic Fulfillment Group division, will step down as a result of a management change.
Thorpe joined SFG in 2003 to help develop new system capabilities. DRG chairman Roger Muselman said DRG executives and SFG senior management will step in until a new COO is named.
SFG is located in Big Sandy, Texas. DRG owns House of White Birches of Berne.
