Nine Indians earn award

Nine Fort Recovery High School basketball players picked up conference academic honors at the Indians’ winter sports awards ceremony Sunday.
Seniors Holly Brunswick, Nicole Dilworth, Abby Huelskamp and Olivia Thien led a group of eight girls basketball players who made the All-Midwest Athletic Conference Academic Team. Joining them were juniors Kylie Kahlig, Ericka Lennartz, Kelly Nietfeld and Olivia Schwieterman.
Jared Kahlig earned the honor for the boys team.
The award goes to sophomores, juniors and seniors who earn a varsity letter and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Sisters Holly and Kendra Brunswick were also second-team All-Northwest District selections, and each earned All-State honorable mention. Wade Gelhaus, a sophomore, earned special mention on the All-Northwest District.
Holly Brunswick led Fort Recovery in scoring (12.3 points per game), rebounds (5.6) and free-throw percentage (81) this season. Kendra Brunswick added 12.2 points, a team-high 83 assists and a single-season school record 47 3-pointers.
Gelhaus averaged team bests of 12.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for the Tribe while adding 70 blocks.
The Brunswicks and Dilworth (5.9 ppg, 76 assists) will play in Wednesday’s District 8 Coaches Association All-Star game at Elida at 6:15 p.m.
Farlow, Vormohr lead
INDIANAPOLIS — Cady Farlow and Anne Vormohr each turned in sixth-place finishes as the Jay County Winter Swim Team competed this weekend at the Age Group State Championships. They led the team to an eighth-place effort in the 13-14-year-old girls division.
Farlow’s top swim came in the 200-yard breaststroke, where she was sixth in a career-best time of 2 minutes, 32.26 seconds.
She was also 11th in the 100 breaststroke.
Vormohr turned in a career-best time of 59.67 for sixth in the 100 backstroke.
Cori Stone, Sophie Bader, Farlow and Vormohr teamed for sixth in the 400 freestyle relay and seventh in the 400 medley relay. Katy Smeltzer, Farlow, Bader and Vormohr were eighth in the 200 medley relay and ninth in the 200 freestyle relay.

Miles places second
CONNERSVILLE — Courtney Miles finished as the state runner-up March 19 at the Wild About Gymnastics Level 7 state competition.
Miles’ top effort came on the balance beam, where she posted a 9.3 for second place. She added a 9.2 on the vault and a 9.1 on the floor exercise for a 34.35 all-around total.
White named to team
Trevor White was recently named to the All-Allen County Athletic Conference boys basketball second team.
White led the Starfires in rebounding with an average of six per game. He also scored 4.5 points per contest, and finished with 13 steals.
