No. 1 Portland loses to Blues (06/22/05)
Portland Rockets
FORT WAYNE — The Portland Rockets looked as if their perfect record in the Fort Wayne Baseball Federation would stay in tact. But a day after the Rockets took over the No. 1 spot in the state, LaMargarita Blues put together a big sixth inning and upset them 7-5 Tuesday night.
Portland (16-6, 6-1 FWBF), which passed the Evansville Outlaws for the top ranking in the Indiana Semi-Pro Baseball Web site’s poll Monday, held a 5-3 lead behind South Adams graduate Matt Ousley heading into the sixth. The Blues scored four times in the sixth before Mike Linder came in to get the final out.
The Rockets built their lead on the power of a third-inning grand slam by Luke Jones, who also singled home a run in the fifth inning. Lenny Koesters, Matt Gard, Phil Bruns, Kris Steffen Kyle Dygert and Matt Steinke added one hit apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
