No. 7 Jay Co. nearing records (05/23/07)
JCHS baseball
It looks as if the records are going to begin falling.
The Class 3A No. 7 Jay County baseball team earned its 21st victory of the season Tuesday 11-0 in five innings over Monroe Central, and several players are within striking distance of team records.
Josh Ludy smacked his 10th home run of the season, leaving him one short of the single-season record set by Shannon Stigleman in 1991. Rhett Retter also hit his third homer of the season in the victory to lift the team total to 24, which is also one off the team record posted in 1998.
Michael Jobe earned the victory, his 10th of the season, which is two behind Dean Hunt's record for wins from 1976. And Josh Selvey already owns the career record for sacrifices with 13 and is one short of Mark King's single-season record of nine set in 1986.
Ludy and Retter each finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs against Monroe Central. Retter drove in four runs, and Ludy had three RBIs for the Patriots, who close the regular season Thursday at Bellmont.
Andy Hughes added two hits and two RBIs, and Tony McCowan scored twice.
Jobe improved to 10-1 with the four-hit shutout. He dropped his ERA to 1.54 and now has 75 strikeouts in 542/3 innings.[[In-content Ad]]
