No. 7 Starfires slip to 0-3 in conference play (04/25/08)

South Adams roundup

LEO - Conference play has not been kind to the Starfires.

The first seven games were great for the South Adams High School softball team. All were wins, leading to a No. 7 ranking in Class 2A and the best start for the program in ages.

But since then the Starfires have lost three consecutive Allen County Athletic Conference games, falling 2-1 Thursday to the Leo Lions.

The other losses came 7-4 to Bluffton and 5-3 to Heritage, a team it had defeated earlier in non-conference play.

Thursday's loss was especially tough as South Adams scored its lone run in the second inning and held the advantage until Leo's final at bat. The Lions scored a pair of unearned runs off of Ashton Morgan to take the victory.

Morgan allowed two hits and also had two wild pitches in her two innings. Amber Melick gave up four hits and a walk while striking out two in five scoreless frames.

Lindsay Batt singled to drive in the lone Starfire run.

Jordan Lehman had the lone extra-base hit with a double, and Morgan had a single and a stolen base.

SA third at WVGC

GENEVA - Four rounds in the 40s left the South Adams golf team a bit short Thursday as it finished third behind Bellmont and Adams Central.

The Starfires finished with a 190 at Wabash Valley Golf Club. Bellmont won with a 169, and Adams Central, which had only three players break 50, was second at 185.

Landyn Waugh posted the top score for South Adams with a 44. Bellmont's Luke Ainsworth was the match medalist with a 1-over-par 37.

Mark Farris followed Waugh for the Starfires with a 48, and Ryan Moser and Thurman Pursley were each one stroke back at 49.[[In-content Ad]]
