MINSTER, Ohio — The Indians never quite recovered after falling behind by double digits in the second quarter.
The Division IV No. 8 Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team suffered just its second loss of the year 46-40 Thursday to the Minster Wildcats.
FRHS (10-2, 4-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) trailed 13-12 early in the second quarter before the Wildcats (10-2, 3-2 MAC) tallied eight straight points. The Indians closed to within four in the third quarter, but trailed by at least seven throughout the fourth before Olivia Schwieterman hit a late 3-pointer for the final margin.
Kelly Nietfeld totaled 12 points and eight rebounds for the Tribe, which had 25 turnovers.
Kayla Wuebker and Tara Clune paced Minster with 12 points apiece.
In the junior varsity game, Fort Recovery got nine points from Kara Jutte in a 33-26 defeat.
Boys fall to ’Cats
FORT RECOVERY — Scoring difficulties in the opening quarter led to a pair of losses for the Indians as the seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams fell 30-13 and 45-21 respectively to the Minster Wildcats.
Kyle Schroer had eight points for the Fort Recovery eighth grade team (8-2), which trailed 15-2 after the opening period. Wes Wenning added five points.
Jason Roessner scored four points for the Indian seventh graders (3-7), who went scoreless in the first quarter. Travis Sutter chipped in three points.
Flyers defeat girls
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade girls basketball team suffered a 43-39 overtime loss Thursday to the host Marion Local Flyers. The seventh graders fell 32-25.
Kirsten Jutte and Trisha Thien each had eight points to lead the Tribe eighth graders. Caitlyn Huelskamp added six points.
Jocie Kaiser tallied 10 points for the seventh grade squad. Audra Metzger followed with six.[[In-content Ad]]
