Old National honored for service
Business Roundup
Old National Bank was recently named as one of four recipients for the 2010 Corporate Engagement Award of Excellence, presented by the Points of Light Institute.
The award, which recognizes companies for their volunteer efforts to solve community problems, was given to Old National, AT&T, Intel and Campbell's Soup.
The bank will be recognized and receive the award at the National Conference on Volunteering and Service June 29 in New York City.
Low emissions
Ethanol producer POET announced that cellulosic ethanol being produced by the company's first commercial cellulosic plant will produce negative emissions compared to gasoline.
The ethanol will reduce carbon emissions by 111 percent compared to gasoline, meaning the fuel will offset more greenhouse gas than it produces.
The findings were presented by Air Improvement Resource, Novi, Mich.
Cellulosic ethanol is produced from agricultural waste such as corn cobs and stalks.
Abatement approved
The Berne City Council approved a 10-year tax abatement for FCC-Berne on its $7.5 million expansion that should add 25 new jobs.
There was no public opposition during the abatement hearing.
FCC manufacturers clutch assembly units and power train components and also operates a plant in Portland.
Development trip
Representatives from regionally development group Energize-ECI, including Jay County Development Corporation executive director Bill Bradley, participated in a site selection trip June 9 and 10. Representatives from Blackford, Grant, Delaware and Fayette counties joined Bradley during the trip, where they met with site selectors and promoted East Central Indiana as a location for businesses looking to expand or relocate.
"These relationships will prove beneficial as the economy turns around and companies gain the confidence to invest in expansion," Bradley said in a press release.
Local support
Ohio energy company Self Providers Group and SNAP Fitness, Greenville, Ohio, are sponsoring Switch and Support, an energy saving program that will aid Fort Recovery programs.
By using a preferred provider, a portion of customers' energy bills is earmarked for community support.
The program will be launched in Fort Recovery in the near future and money collected through the program will support Fort Recovery summer baseball and softball, Fort Recovery Friends of the Library and Fort Recovery Historical Society.
