Gobbles Wendy's
Triarc Companies Inc. of Atlanta has bought Wendy's in a $2.3 billion deal announced Thursday.
Triarc, owned by Nelson Peltz, also owns Arby's, which has a Portland store.
The company will pay about $26.78 per share for Wendy's, which has about 87 million shares outstanding.
Legislators graded
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce has released its annual report cards for Hoosier legislators in its "Legislative Vote Analysis."
The chamber grades lawmakers based upon their votes on business-related issues.
"This year, we included the vote scores on property tax, immigration and health care mandates, among many others. In total, 45 separate votes (20 for House members and 25 for senators) were factored in to reach a legislator's overall voting record," said Indiana Chamber president Kevin Brinegar in a prepared statement.
"Overall, the 2008 vote scores are down dramatically from last year," Brinegar said.
State Rep. Bill Davis (R-District 33) had a 2008 pro-business score of 71 percent. He has a two-year average of 80 percent.
State Sen. Allen Paul (R-District 27) had a 2008 pro-business score of 64 percent and a two-year average of 73 percent.
Legislators who score 70 percent or higher over a two-year period are eligible for endorsement by the Indiana Chamber's political action committee.
Taking shape
Work on Indiana Bio Energy's new ethanol plant in Bluffton is continuing, and company officials now project a start-up date of Aug. 28.
Six employees have been hired and are working in a new administrative office building.
Closing aids expansion
Blackford County Commissioners this week approved closing a two-tenths of a mile section of county road 600 North near Montpelier to allow for planned expansion of Central States Enterprises, a regional grain firm.
Earlier plans had indicated that an ethanol plant would be part of the Central States expansion, but company officials said this week no final decision on an ethanol plant has yet been made. The company owns about 240 acres near Montpelier.
