Open house is Sunday (05/14/08)

The Jay County Historical Museum, 903 E. Main St. in Portland, will have an open house on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Items belonging to James D. Pitzer, a former Jay County Conservation Officer who was killed in the line of duty in 1961, will be displayed.

Also memorabilia from the Battles of Fort Recovery, from the collection of John Lingo, will be featured.

Admission is free.

Iris Show

The Iris Growers of Eastern Indiana will hold their annual Iris Show on Sunday at Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie.

Entries are to made between 9 and 10:30 a.m. and the public is welcome from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Special day

Me's Zoo will have its Annual Free Day For Special People on Friday, June 6.

The zoo will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for handicapped persons and the elderly in poor physical condition. Free admission will also be given to one caregiver 16 years or older.

Large groups planning to attend need to call (765) 468-8559 by June 2. The zoo is located at 12441 West 300 South in Parker City.

Mock trial

Joshua Atkinson, Portland, recently competed in a regional Mock Trial tournament in South Bend.
