JOINING STAFF
Dr. Eric Jay Betts is joining the staff at Preferred Family Physicians in Portland.
Originally from White Pigeon, Mich., he holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and graduated from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1998.
His medical background includes a residency in family practice and training at Parkview, Lutheran, and St. Joseph hospitals in Fort Wayne.
GOEBEL APPOINTED
Delaware County resident Alan Goebel was appointed as a registered representative of Great American Advisors Inc. Investment Center at Pacesetter Bank.
Through agreements with Great American Advisors, Pacesetter Bank customers may purchase a variety of investment and insurance products any of the six bank locations including in Blackford, Grant, Jay and Randolph counties.
Products offered include mutual funds, fixed and variable rate annuities, stocks, bonds, unit investment trusts and life insurance.
A lifelong resident of Delaware County, Goebel brings more than 20 years of experience in the financial services business to his new position.
He managed the Hartford City office of the Marion School Employees Federal Credit Union from 1983 to 2000.
While his office is located in Hartford City, Goebel is available to work with customers in other communities served by Pacesetter Bank.
BANKS PARTICIPATE
Two area banks were among several in Indiana attempting to help educate consumers about finances.
Mutual Federal Savings Bank in Muncie and the Randolph County Bank in Winchester were among those surveyed last month by the Indiana Bankers Association to determine the extent to which financial institutions are educating consumers.
According to a release from the association, results were impressive.
From a field of 41 respondents, between Sept. 2002 and Aug. 2003, more than 450 bankers made presentations or otherwise supported consumer education, reaching some 8,000 Hoosiers.
Taking into consideration that the survey results exclude 1960 IBA-member institutions, and that the vast majority of banks participate in financial literacy programs, potentially some 40,000 men, women and children in Indiana likely benefited last year from the consumer education programs of the banking industry.
Banks offered community programs through community group presentations, bank tours, educational programs and by supporting organizations.
MEETING SET
The performance accountability committee of the East Central Indiana Workforce Investment Board will hold a luncheon meeting Tuesday, Sept. 9.
The meeting, which will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m., will be held at the WorkOne Center, 201 E. Charles St., Muncie.
