Open house set for Sunday (07/20/06)

The Jay County Historical Museum, 903 East Main Street in Portland, will hold an open house on Sunday from 1 until 4 p.m.
A display of Jay County postal history, by Portland resident and stamp collector Jeffrey Crown, will be featured.
Admission to the museum is free.
Special speaker
The Women's Giving Circle will have a special speaker on Saturday at Arts Place in Portland. Heidi Floyd, a breast cancer survivor and employee of Vera Bradley Company, will speak at 10:30 a.m. in the auditorium.
Anyone interested in hearing Heidi speak may call the Portland Foundation at (260) 726-4260.
Pool party
Children who met their goal during the summer reading program at Jay County Public Library are invited to a pool party on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Portland Pool.
Awards will be presented, pizza will be provided by Domino's Pizza of Portland and drinks will be provided by Friends of the Library.
Teens who reached their goal may also attend the pool party. Also an exclusive teen party will be Tuesday, July 25, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the library. Registration is required to attend.

Earns fellowship
Andrew Wells, Portland, has been selected for the Governor's Fellowship; a year-long program giving recent college graduates experience serving in state government. He was one of seven selected in the state.
Wells graduated from Wabash College with a degree in history and minors in political science and English literature. He is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society and served as president of the Wabash College Republicans. The recipient of the president's scholarship at Wabash College, he recently completed a Secretary of State Fellowship.

Swiss Days Quilt Show will be held Thursday, July 27, through Saturday, July 29, at South Adams High School in Berne. Members of the Swiss Stitchers Quilting Guild are asking people to enter quilts in their show. Quilts do not have to be made by the one entering them and they can be any size and kind.
Quilts may be brought to South Adams High School commons area (large set of doors on the south side) on Thursday, July 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and may be picked up Saturday, July 29, between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Quilts may also be for sale, with a 5% commission charge.
A free quilt show ticket will be given with each quilt entry (up to two.) Admission to the show is $3. Hours are Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
