Open mic nite set (02/14/08)
Taking Note
The Art Association of Randolph County will have its Annual Open Mic Nite Poetry Coffeehouse on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Union City Depot.
Admission is $2.00 for adults and students are free. There will be coffee, cappuchino, tea and tidbits included. For more information, call the Art Association at (765) 964-7227.
Scholarships
The Extension Homemaker Clubs of Jay County are offering $500 scholarships to two seniors in Jay County. The scholarships are available to males or females wanting to study family and consumer sciences, foods and nutrition, dietetics, restaurant management, child development and care, family studies and human development, fashion merchandising and clothing design, family economics and consumer education and housing or environmental design.
Interested students may obtain applications from the guidance office of Jay County High School. Applications must be returned to the high school or the Jay County Extension Office by March 14.

The Indiana Extension Homemakers Association is offering eight $500 scholarships to Indiana homemakers 25 years or older. The scholarships are to complete education or upgrade vocational skills at a state-licensed or accredited academic or vocational school. Those studying at an undergraduate level and in financial need, will be given preference.
Applications are available at the Jay County Cooperative Extension Office at 504 W. Arch Street in Portland. For more information, call the office at (260) 726-4707. Those studying at an undergraduate level and in financial need, will be given preference.
Diabetes program
The Purdue University Extension CFS Educators will offer a Dining with Diabetes program on March 4 and March 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the 4-H Building at the Jay County Fairgrounds.
The two sessions will teach participants how to prepare healthy, tasty meals. Recipes will be demonstrated and participants will get to taste test each one. Current information on nutrition, meal planning and exercise will be given.
Reservations are needed by Feb. 28. For more information or to register, call the Jay County Extension Office at (260) 726-4707 or email [email protected].
Geneva scholarships
Geneva Proud is offering two $500 scholarships for South Adams High School seniors who live in the Geneva area and are planning to attend a two year or four year college, university or trade school.
Applications are available at the high school guidance office and must be returned to the Geneva Public Library by 5 p.m. on March 31.
Art show
The 2008 Regional Student Art Show will be held March 13 through April 26 at Arts Place in Portland. The show "Winds of Change" is held in observance of Youth Art Month and will feature artwork by area students.
A reception will be held Thursday, March 13, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Arts Place,131 E. Walnut Street.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. The exhibit is sponsored by Dr. Steve Myron.
Dean's list
Alyssa Johnson, Portland, has made the dean's list for the fall of 2007 at Taylor University in Upland. She is a sophomore majoring in elementary education.
