The Portland Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for its 2003 Industry, Business and Citizen of the Year Awards and its Lifetime Achievement Award.
The nomination deadline is Monday, Nov. 10. Nomination forms should be returned to the PACC office, 411 N. Meridian St.; faxed to (260) 726-3372; or e-mailed to [email protected].
The PACC Board of Directors will make the selections at its November meeting. Awards will be presented at the chamber’s annual meeting in January of 2004.
ENTREPRENEUR BOOTCAMP
A discounted fee is being offered to Portland Area Chamber of Commerce members who wish to attend TechPoint’s Entrepreneur Bootcamp at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
In addition to learning how to whip a business into shape from the best business drill sergeants in Indiana, technology entrepreneur Guy Kawasaki, a founder of Silicon Valley’s Garage Technology Venture, also will lead a business planning session assisted by other Garage executives.
Registration fees are: $225 before Friday, Oct. 31 and $275 after that date; and $495 at the door for all day-of-event registrants.

PARADE OF LIGHTS
Area businesses, industries, clubs and organizations are invited to participate in the 12th Annual Holiday Parade of Lights in Portland on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 6 p.m.
Line-up is at 5 p.m. at East Jay Middle School.
The parade of lights is sponsored by the Portland Rotary Club.
Cash prizes of $100 will be awarded in six categories: Business/industry; best animal entry; adult organizations; best decorated vehicle; youth organizations; and best overall float.
All entries must be lighted in some way, such as by battery, flashlights, generator or lanterns. Also, any candy offered is to be handed to parade watchers, not thrown, to ensure their safety in the dark. Street lights will be turned off along much of the route.
Since Santa’s official arrival in Portland will be the final entry in the parade, participants are asked not to include a live Santa in their entries.
Completed parade entry forms must be returned to the Portland Area Chamber of Commerce by Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Jane Spencer of the Jay County Historical Society will be the speaker at the Tuesday, Oct. 28 Portland Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
Lunch will be served at noon in conference rooms A and B at Jay County Hospital.
