Parkway knocks Fort from tourney

MINSTER, Ohio - The Fort Recovery High School baseball team lost in the opening round of the Division IV sectional tournament Saturday 13-3 in five innings to the Parkway Panthers.

The Indians, who lost 15-5 to Parkway during the regular season, also fell 10-0 Friday to the St. Johns Blue Jays. They have dropped 17 straight since winning their season opener.

Ethan Schoenherr took the sectional loss as he started and gave up four hits and five walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Jason Pottkotter finished with two hits, a run and an RBI to lead the Tribe offense. Cody Fiely added a triple, a walk, a run and an RBI.

In the loss to St. Johns, Nathan Keller gave up six runs on seven hits in one inning. Cody Fiely and Ethan Schoenherr each had one hit in the defeat.

Brunswick wins two

COLDWATER, Ohio - Fort Recovery's girls track team got two wins from Holly Brunswick and finished fourth in the Mercer County Meet Friday.

The Indian girls scored 88 points, just two fewer than the third-place host Coldwater Cavaliers, while Celina won with 140. The Tribe boys finished last with 30 points as Celina won with 149.

After taking the top spot in Thursday's long jump competition, Brunswick returned Friday to win the high jump. Kylie Kahlig added a first-place finish in the shot put.

Abby May was second in the 300 hurdles, and the Indians also got runner-up efforts in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Sam Tobe was third in the 1,600 run, and Kahlig finished third in the 200 dash.

Aaron Vagedes turned in the long victory for the FRHS boys in the long jump. Mark Mattraw finished second in the discus.

Celina is perfect

CELINA, Ohio - Nothing went well for the Fort Recovery softball team Friday as it fell victim to a perfect game by the Celina Bulldogs in a 10-0, six-inning defeat.

The Indians went without a base-runner against Celina, which scored four runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. Andi Sutter took the loss, giving up 10 runs - eight earned - on 12 hits and three walks.

In the junior varsity game at FRHS, the Indians rolled to a 13-3 win in five innings. Brittany Sudhoff went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs, and Becca Tobe picked up the victory as she had five strikeouts.

Shelton leads runners

COLDWATER, Ohio - Alex Shelton finished first in two events to lead the Fort Recovery Middle School girls track team to a third-place finish at the Mercer County Meet.

The girls scored 49 points to finish behind Coldwater (184) and Marion Local (136). The boys were fourth with 59 points while Coldwater won with 149.

Shelton's victories came in the 100-meter dash and 200 dash. Haley Knapke was second in the shot put, and Elle Sutter finished third in the 1,600 run.

David Trobridge powered the boys team, winning the 100 dash, placing second in the 400 dash and taking third in the 200 dash. Bobby Mattraw was second in the discus, and Derek Sutter took third in the 1,600 run.[[In-content Ad]]
