Party for givers planned (10/20/04)

There will be a celebration party featuring Debbie Myers and friends on Monday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Portland. The party is for anyone who has given time or money for the good of our community over the past year. The celebration will feature patriotic music, show tunes, marches and more. WORKSHOP IN GENEVA
The Geneva Public Library and WorkOne will present a WorkKeys and KeyTrain program at a business luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 26, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Geneva Public Library in the Gene Stratton Porter Room, 305 E. Line St., Geneva.
WorkKeys is a comprehensive employment system that determines and categorizes the skills necessary for a specific job, matches the individuals skill level to particular job requirements, and serves as a foundation for training programs that close skill gaps and develop a more capable workforce.

NATIONAL SCHOLAR
Claire Fennig, a Jay County High School student, has been selected for membership in The National Society of High School Scholars. The Society invites students who have superior academic achievement and are among the top scholars in the nation and offer scholarships, networking, events and publications.
Fennig is the daughter of Joe and Kathy Fennig, 425 W. Votaw St., Portland.
STORYTELLING FESTIVAL
A Storytelling Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Bellmont High School in Decatur.
Award winning storytellers from across the U.S. will be at the event. Also the Molasses Creek folk band will perform and call a square dance from 6 to 7 p.m.
There will be arts and crafts vendors and food booths at the festival.
The festival is being held in conjunction with Decatur’s Callithumpian Week activities, which will feature fireworks at 9 p.m.
Tickets are $5 per person or $15 for a family and the festival is being sponsored by the Adams County Hospital in Decatur. For more information, call (260) 724-2145 ext. 4352 or visit the website at www.decaturchamber.org.
ART EXHIBIT
Birds: Avian Art exhibit will be on display at the Creative Arts Council gallery, 211 W. Water St. in Bluffton through Nov. 29.
The exhibit features photographs of winged species, steel sculptures, watercolors and a wood carving.
Admission is free. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
MINNETRISTA EVENTS
Let’s Make Color Last All Winter will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 9 to 10 a.m. and again from 4 to 5 p.m.
Experimenting with finger paints and brush techniques.
The cost is $5 and please bring an old shirt.

ACT is looking for secondary school teachers to participate in a six week summer program, from June 20 through July 29 of 2005, to help develop and evaluate ACT’s test materials and classroom support materials.
