Patriot boys top Southside

MUNCIE — Jay County’s boys soccer team halted a three-game skid Monday with a 4-0 shutout of the Muncie Southside Rebels.
The Patriots (4-9) got on the board midway through the first half when Colton Bartlett scored off an assist from Colton McCombs. The pair switched roles four minutes into the second half when Bartlett assisted on a McCombs goal.
McCombs came up with his second assist en route to a Seth Ainsworth goal with 12:37 remaining, and Bartlett added the fourth JCHS goal just 27 seconds later. Bartlett finished with three shots on goal, and Aldo Castro and Alex Dunn each had two.
Dillon Ainsworth finished with five saves.
Tennis draws Indians
MARION — The Jay County High School boys tennis team will open sectional play Wednesday against the Mississinewa Indians.
The Patriots (3-13) and Mississinewa were picked for the opening-round match in the sectional draw held Monday. The winner will advance to play Madison-Grant in Thursday’s semifinal round at 5 p.m., and Blackford will take on the host and defending champion Giants in the other semifinal.
The championship match will be Friday at 5 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Peru regional to take on the winner of the Peru sectional.
Freshmen fall
The Eastbrook Panthers handed the Jay County junior varsity football team a 20-0 defeat Monday.
Zach Metcalf picked up 65 yards rushing for the Patriots, who trailed just 6-0 at halftime. Keenan James picked up 48 yards, and Jacob Harter had three tackles and a sack.
Auker leads win
Korbin Auker was the leading scorer in the Jay County Pee Wee Football League Saturday, recording a pair of touchdowns to lead the Dolphins to an 18-0 victory over the Bears.
Evan Hemmelgarn and Jake Geesaman scored the only TDs in wins for the Bengals and Giants respectively, and Gab Bullard, Noah Hummel and Holton Hill each found the end zone in a victory for the Chiefs. Parker Grimes had a TD in the Colts’ 10-6 win over the Cowboys.[[In-content Ad]]
