The Jay County High School freshman boys basketball team defeated the visiting Bellmont Braves Monday, 26-14.
Matt Landfair scored eight points to lead the Patriots to victory. Seth Ainsworth and Dillion Ainsworth each added five points for JCHS.
EJ dominates Raiders
Both East Jay Middle School's boys basketball teams turned in a shutout quarter Monday.
The seventh graders blanked Southern Wells in the second quarter of a 43-17 victory, and the eighth grade team shut out the Raiders in the fourth quarter of their 60-19 win.
Jacob Schlosser scored 12 points for the seventh grade Chiefs, who took a 10-0 advantage in the second quarter. Zach Fullenkamp added seven points.
Kegan Comer racked up 22 points for the eighth graders, who shut out Southern Wells 16-0 in the fourth quarter. Cade Price also reached double figures with 12 points.
Eagles fall to Selma
DUNKIRK - The West Jay Middle School girls basketball teams each lost to Selma Monday, the seventh grade team by a 38-15 score and the eighth graders 41-20.
Chelsea Tighe led the seventh grade Eagles with eight points. Ciera Barcus chipped in three points.
Shelby Shirk led the WJMS eighth graders, who got outscored 27-6 in the second half, with eight points. Megan Price scored seven points.

PONETO - The second quarter was key for the East Jay Middle School girls basketball teams Tuesday night.
The eighth grade Chiefs dominated the second period 14-3 on the way to a 36-25 victory. The seventh graders couldn't recover from going scoreless in the second quarter on the way to a 19-15 defeat.
Emily Devoe powered the EJMS eighth graders (7-0) with 18 points. Hannah Ainsworth joined her in double figures with 10 points.
Abby Dunlavy's four points were a team high for the seventh grade team (5-1). Kaitlin Petro added three points.
