Patriot freshmen fall short vs. New Castle (01/31/07)

Jay County's freshman boys basketball team fell just short Tuesday, dropping a 36-35 decision to the New Castle Trojans.

Each team managed just four first-quarter points before the Patriots fell behind 16-14 at halftime. They grabbed a 22-21 lead after three periods before falling to the one-point loss.

Eric Homan scored 11 points to lead Jay County. Jacob Chenoweth also reached double figures with 10 points, and John Pettus added eight.

Ben Walters racked up nine points to lead the B team to a 16-7 victory.

Eagles fall to UC

UNION CITY - West Jay Middle School's wrestling team lost 58-36 to Union City Westside Tuesday, but came up with four pins in the process.

Ethan Lightner finished off his 175-pound match in a hurry, scoring a pin in 40 seconds. Joining him were Sam Pitman (95) with his pin in 51 seconds, Drake Meska (105) in one minute flat and Isaac Rogers (HWT) in 2-minutes, nine seconds.

Dustin Tighe (80) added a 12-7 victory, and Cory Green (85) turned in a 10-6 decision.

EJMS tops Bears

Nine victories powered the East Jay Middle School wrestling team to at 51-36 win Monday over the Monroe Central Golden Bears.

Posting wins for the Chiefs were Brandon Poore (95), Chandler Stout (105), Nick Leonhard (110) and Dyllan Derrickson (115). Kyle Davidson (120), T.J. Teeple (125), Cody Bellis (135), Justin Wygant (145) and Micah Boyer (160) also added victories.

Ethan Bost (225) turned in the lone junior varsity win for East Jay.[[In-content Ad]]
