Patriot girls 7th at invite (09/12/05)

HARTFORD CITY — Jay County’s girls finished in the middle of the pack while the boys were at the bottom in their most difficult challenge of the season thus far.
The Patriot girls cross country team finished seventh with 171 points in a 14-team field at the Blackford Invitational Saturday. Carroll, ranked 15th in the state, placed first with 41 points, and DeKalb was second with 60.
The boys team was 18th out of a 19 teams, including three state ranked squads, finishing with 508 points. Yorktown was 19th with 210, while No. 10 Blackford won with 90, No. 15 Andrean was second with 103 and No. 3 Pendleton Heights took third with 104.
Alyssa Johnson posted the top finish for either Jay County team, taking eighth in the girls race in 15-minutes, 42 seconds. She was nearly a minute off the pace set by Carroll’s Chelsea Blanchard (14:57).
Amanda Johnson followed in 20th place with a time of 16:23. Jessica Mosier was third for the Patriots in 32nd at 17:16, Kylie Wellman placed 41st in 17:31 and Cassie Laux took 71st with a time of 18:58.
Just two Patriot boys runners managed to finish in the top 100 as freshman Brady Mills led the team in 87th at 19:17. Travis Towell was next with time of 19:41 to take 98th.
They were followed by Cory Mock in 104th in 20:06, Josh Selvey in 108th in 20:13 and Doug Murray in 111th in 20:19.[[In-content Ad]]
