Patriot girls break record

HARTFORD CITY — The Patriots broke the record again.
A year after setting the school record for wins at 12, the Jay County High School girls swim team broke the mark with its 13th win Tuesday — 138-38 over the host Blackford Bruins.
The boys team, which is on pace to tie its school record of 13 wins, also rolled to a 131-31 victory.
Caitlin Mark was the lone double winner on the evening, taking the 100-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 0.94 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.19. Marissa Murrell, Laura Bowen, Eme Miller, Abigail Johnson, Alyson Lucas, Katy Smeltzer and Lacie Hall also added individual victories for the Patriot girls (13-3), who can extend their record in the final meet of the season Thursday against Marion.
Josh Lykins, Wiley Young, Zach James, James Keen and Remi Arnold earned wins for the boys team (10-3).

Freshmen win again
Jay County’s freshman boys basketball team dominated the second half as it pulled away for its ninth straight victory, 33-15 over the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets.
Nate Brackman matched Adams Central in scoring by himself, finishing with 15 points. Jalen Ryder added five points for the Patriots (9-2), who racked up 23 second-half points.

Chief grapplers roll

The East Jay Middle School wrestling team was dominant at home Tuesday in a 78-12 destruction of Blackford.
The Chiefs took seven matches by pin en route to the 66-point victory. Posting pins for East Jay were Andy Kohler (177), John Osterholt (162), Nick Lairson (154), Matt Blackford (137), Tyler Leonhard (127), Graham Hianes (117) and Ivan Hemmelgarn (97).

Hart leads EJMS
HARTFORD CITY — Gabby Hart powered the East Jay eighth grade girls basketball team Tuesday in a 29-12 road victory over Blackford.
Hart tallied 11 points as the Chiefs improved to 11-3 on the year. Abby Wendel added six points.

EJ sixth falls
UNION CITY — East Jay’s sixth grade boys basketball team came up short Tuesday in a 28-26 loss to host West Side.
Ethan Myers finished with nine points to pace the Chiefs (3-2). Noah Hummel followed with seven points.
In the B team game, Zaaron Lee scored 10 points as EJMS won 24-18.[[In-content Ad]]
