Patriot girls defeat Bellmont

DECATUR — Domination of the long-distance events and three field-event victories powered the Jay County High School girls track team to a pair of wins Thursday.
The Patriots (4-0) scored 74 points to edge host Bellmont (68). Adams Central was third with 21.
Katie Simmons led JCHS in the long-distance events, taking first place in the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 35.6 seconds. Eme Miller was second, and Abigail Johnson took third.
Simmons also won the 3,200 run in 11:57 with teammate Kaitlin Hemmelgarn in third.
Maria Murphy added two wins in the field events with tosses of 37 feet, 8 inches, in the shot put and 104 feet, 9 inches, in the discus. Malarie Houck took the long jump at 15 feet, 1-4 inch.
Sara Lennartz was the runner-up in the discus, and Ciera Barcus took second in the long jump.

Baseball goes to 3-0
WINCHESTER — Jay County kept its undefeated record intact Thursday as it fought off the Winchester Golden Falcons 8-6.

The Patriots (3-0) trailed 3-2 after two innings, and the game was tied at 4-4 after four. JCHS scored once in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead for good as the team overcame six errors.
Kyle Selvey earned the victory, giving up four unearned runs on one hit and one walk in four innings. He struck out eight batters.
Landry Inman struck out six batters in three innings of relief.
Chance Fuller went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, three runs and an RBI. Jason Houston was 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Andre Duke drove in two runs, and Selvey scored twice.

JV baseball falls
The Patriots gave up nine runs in the final two innings Thursday in a 15-5 loss to the visiting Shenandoah Raiders.
Taylor Fugiett pitched four innings and suffered the loss for Jay County, which gave up two runs in the first inning and never led. Ravi Patel tossed two innings of relief.
Nick Clemens went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs to pace the Patriot offense. Brandon Muhlenkamp and Zach Pryor each had a hit, a run and an RBI.[[In-content Ad]]
