Patriot girls finish tied with Delta (04/15/05)

YORKTOWN — Jay County and the Delta Eagles proved to be a pair of equal track teams Thursday.
The girls teams tied for the top score of 66 at the three-team meet at Yorktown Thursday, well ahead of the host Tigers (24). Yorktown won the boys meet with 621/2 points, and Delta edged the Patriots for second 47-461/2.
Freshmen accounted for two of three individual wins by the Jay County girls team.
Amanda Johnson won the 1,600-meter run by seven seconds, finishing in 5-minutes, 51 seconds. Erika Hunt took the 300 hurdles in 56.12 seconds.
Junior Alyssa Johnson dominated the 3,200 run by more than 30 seconds, winning in 12:15.
Delta had the advantage in individual events, winning five, but Jay County pulled even thanks to wins in a pair of relays. Amanda Johnson, Alyssa Johnson, Jill Roughia and Rose Weaver teamed for first in the 4x800 relay in a season-best time of 10:29, and Jessica Heitkamp, Brittany O’Dell, Nicole Pfeifer and Sarah Mescher were first in the 4x100 relay in 54.37.
The Patriot boys team also came up with three individual victories, but Yorktown took the win as it finished first in two of the three relays.
Senior Adam May won the 400 dash, finishing in 54.81 seconds. Freshman Chris Moore earned his first career win in the 1,600 run in a time of 5:08.6.
