Patriot girls stay perfect

ANDERSON — An undefeated evening kept the Patriots perfect for the year.
Jay County High School’s girls swim team won every event Thursday, defeating the Anderson Indians 136-46 to improve to 5-0 on the year. The boys team lost 116-67.
Senior Eme Miller led the Patriots with two victories for the third straight meet, taking the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:10.62 and the 500 freestyle in 5:54.29. Mary Hudson (100 butterfly and 100 backstroke), Caitlin Mark (200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke) and Katy Smeltzer (50 freestyle and 100 freestyle) each added two wins apiece, and Sammi Compton scored 165.9 points to finish first in diving.
The Patriot boys were shutout on the evening as they dropped to 1-1. Alex Sutton, Wiley Young and James Keen each finished second in a pair of events.

Braves top freshmen
DECATUR — The Jay County freshman basketball team let a halftime lead slip away Thursday in a 37-32 loss to the host Bellmont Braves.
Nick Clemens scored 11 points for the Patriots, who led by two at the half before getting outscored 13-7 in the third quarter.
Justen Dirksen added 10 points.

West Jay drops two
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball team fell 46-29 Thursday to visiting Selma. The seventh graders lost 32-26.
Dan Meranda finished with 12 points and four rebounds for the eighth graders. Josh Vaughn, Joey Springer and Lance Ferguson each added four points.
Dakota Grove and Justin Crouch each scored eight points as the WJMS seventh grade team dropped to 3-2. Spencer Calvert and Donald Corty added four points apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
