Patriot netters earn 1st win

UNION CITY — The first match-up of the season against one of their new sectional rivals brought the first victory for the Patriots.
Jay County High School’s boys tennis team cruised to its opening win Monday, blanking the Union City Indians 5-0.
Brad Leuthold picked up his second victory of the year at No. 2 singles to lead the Patriots (1-2), who will host Union City, Winchester, Randolph Southern and Northeastern in sectional action this year. He fell just short of a sweep in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Chad Harney.
Derek Smith defeated Ben VanCamp 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Landry Inman got the victory at No. 3 singles by forfeit.
Chance Fuller and Morton Garringer topped Derrick Garland and Luciano Banda 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Nick Leuthold and Tony Schwieterman defeated Chris Lambdin and Tyler Gundlach 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Fisher leads SA golfers
MARION — Abbie Fisher played the final six holes at 3-over-par to lead the South Adams girls golf team to a 197-252 victory over the host Mississinewa Indians at Marion Elks Country Club.
Fisher recorded pars on the par-5 fifth hole, the par-3 sixth and the par-4 eighth for the Starfires, who ran their record to 5-2. She also had three bogeys on the way to earning medalist honors with a 45.

Kristen Lehman was one stroke behind Fisher, also recording three pars for a 46.
Maddie Eaton had the low score for Mississinewa with a 54.
Kristal All and Maddie Graber each had three bogeys in their rounds as they completed the South Adams team score with matching 53s.
Sam Schwartz shot 57.

JC freshmen fall
MUNCIE — Jay County’s freshman football team faced much the same fate as its varsity counterpart in the opening game of the season.
The Patriots suffered a 64-0 defeat Monday against the host Delta Eagles.
Delta defeated the JCHS varsity squad 55-0 Friday night.[[In-content Ad]]
